2017 Ex Post Facto Syrah

Ex Post Facto

We are so grateful the immense interest and response!  Please keep an eye out for the release of the 2018 vintage in Fall 2020.

A new project from Winemaker, Greg Brewer, Ex Post Facto breaks away from Greg’s Burgundian roots at Brewer-Clifton to explore a Rhône style wine from his beloved Santa Barbara County.

The origin of the name is from ex post facto law, “a law that makes illegal an act that was legal when committed.”

Ex Post Facto encapsulates Greg’s almost deviant desire to go outside his Brewer-Clifton paradigm to explore an outside muse.

93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, Oct 2019
“A smoking value from the talents of Greg Brewer, the 2017 Syrah Santa Barbara County comes half from the Nielson Vineyard in Santa Maria and the other half from the Neely Vineyard in Los Alamos. Not destemmed and brought up in neutral oak, it has a classic Syrah gaminess as well as notes of black raspberries, bacon fat, crushed violets, and tapenade. This peppery, medium-bodied, elegant, beautiful Syrah has no hard edges, terrific balance, and just a complex, satisfying style.”
